Horace once wrote, in his First Book of Letters, “Dimidium facti, qui coepit, habet; sapere aude, incipe.” (He who has begun is half done; dare to know, dare to begin!).
Since I am living in a German speaking country, the German version of it is, “Frisch gewagt ist halb gewonnen”. But regardless of the language, the meaning is the same. A good start is half the battle. If you have the courage to start something, if you tackle one thing boldly, you're already on the first step to success. At the beginning of my writing journey, I did not know whom I must ask, or what exactly I will do. But I did know, that I love story, I love history and I love to write. So I asked an Indonesian publisher if I could write a special column in their new children's magazine about learning history through my stories. They agreed. The result is "Jelajah Budaya". And the rest is history. |
